About Calorie Calculator
The Calorie Calculator helps you estimate the time required to burn a specific number of calories by leveraging MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) values and your personal BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).
How It Works
The calculator uses the following formula to determine the time required to burn calories:
Time (hours) = Calories / (MET × Resting Calories Per Hour)
Where:
- Calories: The number of calories you want to burn.
- MET: The Metabolic Equivalent of Task value for the selected exercise, indicating its intensity.
- Resting Calories Per Hour: Calculated as your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) divided by 24.
What is BMR?
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body burns at rest to maintain basic functions such as breathing and circulation. The calculator uses the following formula Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to compute your BMR:
For Males: BMR = 10 × Weight (kg) + 6.25 × Height (cm) - 5 × Age (years) + 5
For Females: BMR = 10 × Weight (kg) + 6.25 × Height (cm) - 5 × Age (years) - 161
Resting Calories Per Hour
The Resting Calories Per Hour is derived from your BMR, calculated as:
Resting Calories Per Hour = BMR ÷ 24
By combining your unique BMR with MET values for different exercises, the Calorie Calculator provides accurate and personalized results to help you achieve your fitness goals efficiently.
